ABOUT US
What is Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy takes a whole-person approach,
The word "Occupation" refers to practical and meaningful activities that form part of our everyday life and allow us to live independently, and are part of our identity. These can be further broken down into self-care, leisure and productivity activities (including, work, education, vocational training etc).

Occupational therapy provides practical support to enable individuals to facilitate recovery and overcome any barriers that prevent them from carrying out these daily activities (occupations) that are important to them. Several approaches can be used, which include but are not limited to: environmental adaptations, re-learning new skills or support to restore lost function. It is a science-based, health and social care profession that’s regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council.

Occupational Therapy aims to increase an individual's independence and overall satisfaction and quality of life.
Occupational Therapists work with adults and children of all ages with a wide range of conditions; usually with individuals who have difficulties as a result of mental health conditions, physical or learning disabilities. They work in a variety of settings including health, social care services, housing, education, re-employment schemes, prisons, voluntary organisation and independent practitioners.
The underpinning ethos of The OT Space is that we aim to look at each individual as a whole, with a range of needs and priorities. For this reason we offer holistic Occupational Therapy assessments as well as have access to a range of other professionals such as Social Workers, Integrative Therapists, Psychotherapists, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Yoga Practitioners, and so on.
